What You Should Know About Wiper Seals For Industrial Use

Lucille Palmer

There are many different types of seals that are used with industrial equipment and machinery. One type of seal that you might commonly see used in an industrial environment is a wiper seal. These are some of the things that you might want to know about wiper seals for industrial use, such as if you're new to purchasing parts and equipment for industrial purposes.

They're Often Made of Rubber

Although wiper seals are sometimes made from different types of plastic, you will probably find that most of the wiper seals that you come across are made from rubber. This is because rubber is an affordable material that can be used to create wiper seals of different sizes and types. You will probably find that rubber wiper seals are easiest for you to work with since they are more pliable and can be put into place more easily, all without you having to worry about breaking or otherwise damaging them.

They're Often Used for Fluid Containment

Wiper seals are used for a few different purposes, but one of the main things that they are used for is fluid containment. Basically, they are used with equipment that might be filled with water or other fluids, including chemicals. If even a little bit of fluid leaks out, it could cause pressure issues for the machinery, or there could be other problems. Leaks of dangerous chemicals and other potentially hazardous fluids can also put workers and others at risk or could have an environmental impact. Luckily, when wiper seals of the appropriate size are used for the job, you can count on them to work well at preventing fluids from leaking out. They can also work well to prevent moisture from getting into your machinery and causing damage or other problems, too.

They're Sometimes Used to Prevent Dirt-Related Issues

Although wiper seals are often used for fluid containment, they are used for other purposes, too. For example, they are sometimes used to prevent dirt, dust, and grime from finding their way into the machinery, which can otherwise cause clogs or other issues.

They Do Have to Be Replaced Occasionally

Although wiper seals are made to be used for industrial purposes, and although these seals are typically quite durable, they do wear out over time. The rubber can become cracked or torn over time, for example. Therefore, it's not a bad idea to buy a few extras of the wiper seals that you need, and it's important to check wiper seals from time to time to look for signs of wear and tear.

About Me
Safety First With Industrial Equipment and Supplies

Hi, my name is Lewis McKinley and this is a blog about the safety of industrial equipment and supplies. When working with industrial equipment, employees must implement all safety measures to ensure they stay safe at all times. When I was growing up, my dad was a safety inspector, so my siblings and I were always reminded about safety and he taught us how to stay safe no matter what we were doing. Since I learned about safety at a young age, I always make sure that safety is a priority in everything I do. I enjoy doing research about safety and I keep up with changes in safety regulations for many industries. I hope that after you read my blog, you'll learn measures that you can take to remain safe around industrial equipment and supplies.
