3 Helpful Tips For Buying And Using Thread Gages

Lucille Palmer

If you work with screws and equipment that uses screws, then you probably know that using the right screw for the job is important. This can be tough to do if you don't know what size screw you need. To determine what type of screw is needed for the job at hand, you can purchase and use a thread gage. This is a simple tool that will help you determine thread depth and pitch diameter. If you are buying and using a thread gage for the first time, you might find that these three simple tips will help you out a lot.

1. Buy Heavy-Duty Thread Gages

You might have already learned that the quality of the screws that you use can make a big difference. Buying higher-quality screws can go a long way if you want them to work properly and if you want them to last for a long time. Although you might understand why using a higher-quality screw makes sense, you might not be sure of whether or not you should spend a little more on a higher-end thread gage. Since you will probably use this handy tool on a regular basis once you purchase it and learn how to use it, though, you may find that buying an industrial-quality thread gage is a good decision. Then, you should be able to use your thread gage countless times to determine which screw to use for which job.

2. Consider Thread Gages in Different Sizes

Although a thread gage is a tool that is designed to help you check different sizes of screws, you should know that the thread gages themselves come in different sizes, too. If you regularly work with large, industrial screws, for example, you will need to choose a thread gage that will allow you to measure for these bigger screws. Otherwise, you may want a thread gage that can be used to measure smaller screws.

3. Practice Using Thread Gages

Although thread gages are typically pretty easy to use, you might find that you will be faster and more proficient with using one of these handy tools after you practice with it a few times. If you are not sure if you are using a thread gage the proper way, you can check the instructions that came with your thread gage. Alternatively, if you would prefer to learn by example, you can check out some of the videos that are out there that will show you how to use a thread gage the right way. With a little bit of practice, you will probably find that using thread gages is actually very easy.

Safety First With Industrial Equipment and Supplies

Hi, my name is Lewis McKinley and this is a blog about the safety of industrial equipment and supplies. When working with industrial equipment, employees must implement all safety measures to ensure they stay safe at all times. When I was growing up, my dad was a safety inspector, so my siblings and I were always reminded about safety and he taught us how to stay safe no matter what we were doing. Since I learned about safety at a young age, I always make sure that safety is a priority in everything I do. I enjoy doing research about safety and I keep up with changes in safety regulations for many industries. I hope that after you read my blog, you'll learn measures that you can take to remain safe around industrial equipment and supplies.
